Geotechnical Engineer

We are looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer with experience in geotechnical aspects of marine works, and ideally with some structural design experience, to join our Maritime Coastal and Hydraulic Engineering Group.

The successful candidate will work on various international design projects including ports and marine terminals, reclamations, waterfront and coastal, industrial cooling water systems (intakes, outfall, pumping stations).
Projects range from feasibility studies, site selection and conceptual design to PreFEED, FEED and EPC/detailed design. As such, being proactive and problem solving driven will be key skills sought after.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will ideally have at least 3 years’ experience in engineering consultancy or site based work, and international experience. As a Geotechnical Engineer, the following skills are required:

  • Capable to develop Geotechnical Interpretative Reports based on ground factual investigation reports
  • Proficient knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design (slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, settlement…)
  • Proficient in geotechnical and ideally structural design software i.e. Slide, Geo5, Plaxis, STAAD, SAP2000, Robot, etc.
  • Seismic design experience will be an advantage
  • Experience in CAD like environment will be an advantage
  • Proficient knowledge of design codes and standards related to the design of marine structures
  • Experience preparing reports with supporting calculations, design details and working with other staff to develop construction documents.

They should be a Chartered Civil Engineer or working towards Chartership preferably with a second degree in geotechnical engineering. They must be able to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team, leading the design development and have good oral and written communication skills to deliver projects to tight timescales.

Additional information

This role is be based at our head office at Howbery Park near Wallingford, in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. You can expect frequent international travel to a wide variety of destinations, but you will not be expected to work outside the UK for sustained periods.
