Industrial Placement - Equipment, Technology and Innovation 2019/2020

Join our Equipment, Technology and Innovation group – a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers – and help us to develop and deliver our class-leading portfolio to international clients.

As a specialist water-focused consultancy, we build and test scale models to help us explore developments in the coastal and marine environments and our facilities are some of the largest in the world . To support this work, we develop specialist equipment, software and instrumentation for our engineers and scientists, and we also supply these to other facilities around the globe.

About the role

The Industrial Placement will be for one year, commencing during the summer of 2019. The position would suit undergraduate students whose course includes a sandwich year in industry, or those able to take a year in industry between the first and second, or second and third years of their undergraduate course.

Innovation and customer focus are the keys to our success. You’ll work as part of our team in product development to allow us to continue to offer cutting edge technology, whilst also providing our clients with first class service.

The main duties will involve:

  • supporting the design, production and commissioning processes for our laboratory equipment; 
  • assisting with the improvement and extension of our existing product range.

The role will involve both practical, hand-on work, in our laboratory and some office based design work.

About you

 We are looking for someone who is: 

  • Technically inquisitive: you will help our team to innovate and deliver novel solutions for our clients 
  • Hands on: you will need a practical approach to help us resolve technical issues and meet deadlines. 
  • Self-motivated: you may sometimes work independently as well as within a team 
  • Flexible: you will be able to respond positively and adapt to changing priorities.

We would also like to see:

  • 2D & 3D drawing knowledge: preferably in Solidworks 
  • Good with numbers: you will need to perform engineering calculations to validate the design.

In addition to a salary of circa £19,000 per annum, the Company offers excellent benefits including flexible working hours, staff restaurant and a sports and social club.
