Senior or principal marine environmental scientist

This is an opportunity to join our team of marine experts, and to develop the services we offer to clients worldwide when solving technical challenges in the ports, energy, and coastal management sectors.

Duties

  • Provide marine environmental impact advice to projects in the ports, power and coastal management sectors. 
  • Proactively manage marine environmental science projects or components of such projects, to ensure commercial success and the utilisation of the full range of in-house marine science expertise.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with marine clients at the highest level.
  • Prepare marine environmental science proposals and identify new marine environment business opportunities. Work with the rest of the business to broaden our offering to clients, to include all our marine services.
  • Participate in national and international professional associations and other activities that raise the technical profile of HR Wallingford.

Attributes, Training and Experience

  • A good master’s degree qualification in a relevant marine environmental science.
  • Technical specialism in marine ecology or similar, with a background in marine EIA and SEA, marine policy and environmental legislation.
  • A commitment to maintaining the highest technical standards and client responsiveness, and to approach new technical challenges in a proactive, flexible manner.
  • A minimum of eight years’ consulting experience, substantially in international marine projects.
  • A track record of excellence in project management on marine environment projects, with experience of coordinating multidisciplinary teams to demanding deadlines.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commercial awareness and an aptitude for business development.
  • Membership of a professional institution or equivalent (CIWEM, IMarEST, ICE or similar).

This is a permanent full time role. The successful candidate will be based at our head office at Howbery Park near Wallingford, in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Some overseas travel will be required.
