Senior Scientist/Engineer (pollutant dispersion & water quality)

The Coasts and Oceans Group at HR Wallingford is looking to recruit a Senior Scientist / Engineer for its marine pollutant dispersion and water quality team.

You will have 7+ years’ experience undertaking and managing numerical modelling studies and have an excellent understanding of physical oceanographic processes, particularly in coastal and/or estuary environments. You will be passionate about finding real-world applied solutions to complex marine environmental hydraulic challenges. You will have an excellent commercial understanding and a flexibility to work with others to reliably deliver project requirements.

Required 

  • Experienced in solving complex engineering/environmental challenges using computational hydrodynamic modelling (particularly for marine pollutant dispersion & water quality)
  • Coding experience in FORTRAN, Python and/or Matlab 
  • Excellent understanding of coastal and estuarine processes, pollutant dispersion and water quality 
  • Keen eye for detail 
  • Able to work well with other modellers, scientists, and engineers, as well as commercial clients 
  • Track record of project management and preparation of successful commercial and/or research bids 
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical reports / papers 
  • Degree educated in physical sciences, mathematics, or engineering 
  • Post-graduate qualification in a related field.
