Aodhín McBride works as a Water Resources Scientist at HR Wallingford. Aodhín's work helps to secure our water supply in to the future.
"I am a scientist; I work in water resources and have a particular interest in groundwater.
The work I do helps water companies in the UK to manage our water supply. Every five years they publish management plans intended to make sure that there is enough water for public supply and the environment.
This is a very exciting time to be working in water resources. My colleagues and I are currently developing new ways to help water companies explore the impact of drought and climate change.
The work I do helps to ensure that water supply systems will be able to cope when there is a drought. As well as the impacts of droughts we've experienced in the past, I also explore how climate change may affect droughts in the future.
If you are inquisitive and passionate about science, I can certainly recommend a STEM career. I have been fortunate enough to work with highly motivated and encouraging people throughout my career. As well as working in the UK, I've also worked on projects in the Middle East and Africa. It's a great feeling to know that the work you do helps safe guard our water for future generations."
