Marine studies for Hornsea Two offshore wind farm

The UK Government recently approved plans for Hornsea Project Two, potentially the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The 300 turbine project, owned by DONG Energy, is to be located fifty-five miles off the coast of Grimsby and is expected to deliver up to 1.8 gigawatts of electricity which could meet the electricity needs of 1.6 million UK homes. Researching next-generation wind turbine foundations for DONG Energy

HR Wallingford is working with DONG Energy as part of a project to develop the next-generation of wind turbine foundations. HR Wallingford appointed to support Swansea Bay tidal lagoon

The UK government has given the go-ahead to a £1 billion project to build the world’s first tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay, Wales. The Department of Energy and Climate Change has given planning consent to Tidal Lagoon Power (TLP) to build the lagoon which will use the ebb and flow of the tide to generate electricity. Specialist engineering consultancy, HR Wallingford, worked with TLP on preliminary studies for the scheme, and has now been appointed by TLP’s preferred bidder, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) to support them as the project moves ahead. Continue reading ›
