Job title: Technical Director, Floods.
Professional background: Degrees in Geography and Engineering Hydrology; Chartered Civil Engineer and Water and Environment Manager
When did you join HR Wallingford? I have been at HR Wallingford for a total of 18 years. I rejoined in 2003, having previously worked here between 1982 and 1989 when the company was newly privatised. In between these two periods I spent 13 years at a major water utility, where I worked on most aspects of the water environment.
How do you apply your knowledge? A key role for me is to apply my knowledge and experience to ensure that we are providing the best possible solutions for our clients. I look at how our technical and research outputs can be translated into improved policy for flood management. This involves being asked to sit on advisory bodies within organisations such as the ICE and BSI.
What do you enjoy about your work? I enjoy the challenge of managing a great group of professionals to deliver innovative and high quality work for our clients, with the ultimate aim of reducing flooding impacts. I have also been lucky in my career in having the opportunity to work around the world, and this has provided a valuable perspective on the range of flooding problems we face.
