In June 2011, HR Wallingford's Howbery Park site became the UK’s first solar business park to be connected to the National Grid. The new ground-mounted solar array has 3000 panels, and is expected to generate over 682 MWh of clean electricity a year for the park; an engineering, environmental and water research and development centre. The installation will power over a quarter of the business park and save over 350 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

This development closely follows the opening of Kestrel House, HR Wallingford's new headquarters building. The award winning building has an Excellent BREEAM rating, and delivers on HR Wallingford's commitment to provide a high quality working environment for staff whilst developing Howbery Park in an environmentally sensitive way.
