Electrical Maintenance Engineer (Ref 2021_09)

Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual looking for a new opportunity? We currently have a vacancy for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to take responsibility for electrical operations within our Physical Modelling facilities, in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

The scope of the role will be to provide support to HR Wallingford Trading Groups and the Howbery Park Estates management team. A key challenge of this role will be to set and raise the standard of electrical engineering within the Physical Laboratories environment to industry best practice and enable us to maintain professional engineering standards. There is opportunity to identify and deliver projects in line with business needs and vision.

About the role

Maintenance of equipment, compliance with Health & Safety legislation, training and mentoring of junior staff and authorisation of electrical work and equipment are major components of the role, along with planned preventative and reactive low-voltage maintenance to maintain the Physical Laboratories and associated buildings. As part of the role you will be the Physical Laboratories Authorised Person responsible for low-voltage electrical matters ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation, standards, code of practice and procedures. You will: 

  • Maintain, inspect and test existing equipment, including installed and portable low-voltage appliances, single and three phase motor drives and associated controls
  • Implement the Physical Laboratories Electrical Safety Rules
  • Recommend changes to standards and procedures
  • Oversee appropriate authorisation (and limitations) for low-voltage electrical related work
  • Ensure improvement actions are identified as a result of audits, inspections, defect reports, incident investigations etc. and implemented
  • Install low-voltage wiring
  • Fault diagnosis
  • Provide electrical assistance across site with the Howbery Park Estates management team
  • Lead on upgrading of wavemakers
About you

You will have qualified as follows:

  • Time served Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or similar
  • City & Guilds electrical installation qualification (minimum Level 3)
  • Minimum qualification of 17th Edition BS7671 with training given towards obtaining 18th Edition Qualification
  • Authorised Persons qualification within last three years
  • Current First Aid certification with ongoing training given
  • Previous experience in a similar role – ideally from a factory, plant, power station or similar – minimum five years would be ideal. You should have:
  • Ability to carry out small work installations
  • Knowledge and experience of plant and equipment safe isolation procedures
  • Good understanding of safety rules and codes of practice
  • RAMS knowledge and application of Safe Systems of Work
  • Experience as an electrical engineer with knowledge of site operations
  • Experience in fault diagnosis
  • Experience of working in a controlled environment
  • Experience of manufacturing operations
  • Computer literacy, including a good understanding of MS Office and a basic understanding of IP addressing and Ethernet networking would be advantageous as would knowledge of hardware configuration and control systems.

You will be confident in challenging non-compliant situations, and have a high standard of written and verbal communication. Being a team player and solving problems under time pressure are the attributes we seek.
