HR Wallingford is a world leader in hydrodynamics, maritime and costal processes. Due to our continued success, we have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer or Scientist to join our Coasts and Oceans Group, to help our growing coasts and oceans research and consultancy work.
About the job
You will be involved in predicting waves, water levels and currents for design of coastal structures and investigate the impact of developments such as offshore wind farms, harbours or coastal developments. Analysis and interpretation of measured and hindcast Metocean data is an important part of the role. Contributing to Metocean and computational wave and wind modelling studies, you will work with our experienced team to support both Metocean and coastal wave models as well supporting the preparation of bids. You will also have opportunity to be actively involved in the development of in house tools and models. Importantly you will participate in internal forums, working groups and conferences to stay current with industry best practice, research and technology. As with all our roles we offer flexible working arrangements, training and development opportunities and pride ourselves on our collaborative, inclusive and supportive work environment.

You will have a good engineering or scientific degree in a relevant subject and either a higher degree (MSc/Meng or PhD) or a solid amount of professional experience in a relevant field (oceanography. meteorology, applied mathematics, physics, civil engineering). Proven experience of estimating Metocean extreme values for design criteria, including the quantification of uncertainties will be needed. Experience in the application of wave and wind models (e.g SWAN, SWASH, WRF, WASP) and programming using one or more language (Python, Matlab, R) is a prerequisite.. You will enjoy working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with good attention to detail, record keeping presentation and report writing skills.
