We have a fantastic opportunity for an Instrumentation and Control Support Technician to join our team and help us drive forward our thriving wavemaker, equipment and technology business.

As a specialist water-focused consultancy, we build and test scale models to help us explore developments in the coastal and marine environments and our facilities are some of the largest in the world. As part of this work, we have developed a range of specialist equipment, software and instrumentation. Our  Equipment, Technology and Innovation group – a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers – is focused on supplying this equipment to other facilities around the globe.

About the role

From concept through to delivery, you will support our project managers to deliver projects and assist them through all stages of the project lifecycle.  In recent years we have increased the manufacturing of our remote controlled boat range, ARCboat and ARCboat Lite, and now require further support in their future production.  In addition to these vessels, you will also support in the manufacturing, testing, calibration and installation of electrical instrumentation and manufactured products.  You will also kit work orders for production and take responsibility for the packing and shipping of completed orders

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Technically inquisitive: you will help our team to innovate and deliver novel solutions for our clients.
  • Hands on: you will need a practical approach to help us resolve technical issues and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated: you may sometimes work independently as well as within a team.
  • Flexible: you will be able to respond positively and adapt to changing priorities.

We would also like to see:

  • Apprenticeship or college level qualification: in either a mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Mechanical / electrical drawing knowledge: an ability to read electrical circuit drawings (minimum), but experience of 2D or 3D drawing packages would be advantageous.
  • Experience: you will be able to demonstrate a minimum of 1 years’ practical experience, which may include: following instructions; soldering; building cable assemblies; and building light mechanical assemblies.
