Model Technician - Physical Modelling Lab (Ref 2021_29)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Model Technician to join our friendly and inclusive Physical Laboratories group.

About the role

We have a vacancy for a Model Technician in our construction team, based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

The construction team build accurate models, primarily from wood and concrete, in our extensive test facilities. To get an idea of the work involved in this role you can see information on our facilities, and a video showing an example of the construction team’s recent work, here:

Duties include assisting in the construction of models (plant driving, general labouring, screeding, woodwork) for civil engineering projects and general maintenance of the model facilities. The majority of work will be undertaken indoors.

About you

Experience in the building trade, particularly plant licenses (digger/roller/dumper/telehandler), floor screeding and/or plastering would be advantageous, although on the job training / support will be provided. The capability to work from technical drawings and/or verbal instruction, self-motivation and a positive, ‘can do’ attitude are required attributes. A clean driving licence is essential.

Additional skills such as basic carpentry, proven experience with heavy machinery, or basic welding would be useful. Training / refresher training will be provided as required and we are open to considering an Apprenticeship, or day release at college, to develop/expand skillsets if appropriate. The team often works to tight deadlines so willingness to work overtime (including weekends) as workload demands is important. This is a permanent, full time role.
