Project Technician (Ref 2020-09)

As a specialist water-focused consultancy, we build and test scale models to help us explore developments in the coastal and marine environments and our facilities are some of the largest in the world. To deliver this work we have developed a range of specialist equipment, software and instrumentation for our engineers and scientists, and our Equipment, Technology and Innovation group – a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers – now supply these solutions to other facilities around the globe.

About the role

From concept through to delivery, you will support our project managers to deliver projects and assist them through all stages of the project lifecycle.  You will support in the development of designs, engineering solutions and project delivery.  Innovation and customer focus are the keys to our success; you’ll work with our team in product development to allow us to continue to offer cutting edge technology.

As the role develops there maybe opportunities for international travel, as we commission our equipment and train end users at our client’s sites.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Technically inquisitive: you will help our team to innovate and deliver novel solutions for our clients.
  • Hands on: you will need a practical approach to help us resolve technical issues and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated: you may sometimes work independently as well as within a team
  • Flexible: you will be able to respond positively and adapt to changing priorities.

We would also like to see:

  • Ideally a HND / Degree level qualification in engineering: preferably with a mechanical bias. Will also consider time served apprenticeships or qualifications in Computer Aided Design / drafting if you are looking to develop your skill set.
  • 2D & 3D drawing knowledge: preferably in AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Good with numbers: you will need to perform engineering calculations to validate the design
  • Language skills: good spoken and written English will be the minimum requirement.  As we work all over the world, other languages would also be welcome.
