We are looking for a motivated and knowledgeable Senior Oceanographer to join our team at HR Wallingford. As a key contributor you will work with a variety of clients in the UK and internationally, providing exceptional technical work and ensuring the delivery of high-quality data, analysis, and reporting.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing comprehensive scopes of work for monitoring projects, including oceanographic, bathymetric and potentially geophysical, and geotechnical surveys. Your technical assistance will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of accurate data, analysis, and reporting for oceanographic monitoring projects. You will oversee survey teams both onshore and offshore ensuring that work is done safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

As a Senior Oceanographer, you will also provide data analysis and quality assurance on metocean datasets, as well as providing clients with interpretation of results. Your knowledge will be invaluable in creating survey costings, proposals, and technical reports.

As you collaborate on marketing materials such as presentations, case studies, and white papers, your role will go beyond project-specific responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to attend conferences / seminars both in the UK and abroad, sharing your knowledge and expertise with the wider industry. Fieldwork, including offshore assignments, may be necessary on occasion, and your adaptability and flexibility will be important in accommodating these activities.

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have excellent report writing skills, outstanding organisational skills, and effective communication skills while interacting with clients. You should be able to operate both independently and as part of a team, and you should be able to manage changing priorities and take initiative. Attention to detail, high level numeracy skills, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are required.

A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., oceanography, marine science, or similar) and ability to demonstrate solid commercial metocean/oceanography experience, including bathymetric surveys, are required for this post. 

You will be able to demonstrate familiarity with water quality monitoring, sample analysis, commercial data analysis, and reporting of metocean data. Experience with coastal work and team management would be important.
