Senior/Principal Seabed processes Engineer/Scientist

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Seabed Processes Team within the Coasts and Oceans Group, working with a team that is internationally recognised as being world class in the analysis and modelling of scour processes particularly with regard to marine scour.

About the Role

You will lead and further develop our portfolio of research and consultancy work in seabed processes. This includes leading and supporting the delivery of projects working with clients (for example to optimise the design of sustainable offshore wind farms), so an ability to be able to deliver scour studies in both small- and large-scale experimental facilities, as well as carrying out desk assessments of scour risk and developing scour protection designs, is required. You will also provide technical guidance in sediment transport, scour, computational modelling and scour protection in the marine environment.

Day to day you will work with clients, understanding their requirements, and engage with fellow team members, and regulators, and will write proposals and reports. There will also be opportunities to contribute to our leading edge research and development programme. You will be expected to operate at a senior/principal level, with a track record in business development / proposals as well as operational delivery of high quality deliverables on time and to agreed budgets. You will work well with and  support the team at more senior and more junior levels. There may also be opportunities for line management.

About You

With a background of a good engineering, physical science or mathematics degree, you will also have a relevant postgraduate degree in a related field. You must have a good understanding of waves, flows, sediment transport, seabed / coastal morphology, scour, and scour protection design.

You will be able to demonstrate good experience of working in a consultancy or similar environment and show good project management experience. You will be enthusiastic, pragmatic and resourceful. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a flexible attitude and excellent attention to detail.  Ability to contribute to and lead research and commercial strategy aims is necessary. Some experience of CFD modelling (e.g. OpenFOAM/ SedFOAM) and physical (laboratory) hydraulic modelling is desirable.
