Technical Director/Principal Scientist/Engineer -Ships (Ref:2020_18)

We are looking to recruit a Technical Director / Principal Engineer/Scientist to help lead our growing ship navigation and mooring related work. 

The successful candidate will join the Ships and Dredging Group at HR Wallingford and take a prominent role in consultancy and research work.  This will involve leading ship navigation simulation studies, that often use our state of the art ship and tug simulators, and ship mooring studies that may use some of our extensive physical modelling facilities or numerical models. 

About the role

The role will require excellent communication and client liaison skills, underpinned by a strong technical background in ship navigation, ship mooring and port operations/logistics.  The role will also provide the opportunity for innovative research and development to support this growing business area.

About you

The successful candidate will have: 

A good engineering or scientific degree

  • At least 10 years relevant professional experience and/or a higher degree in a relevant subject
  • Experience of ship navigation and ship mooring project work and delivery
  • A working knowledge of relevant national and international clients
  • A track record of procuring and winning relevant work
  • An interest in leading research and development in a relevant area
  • An ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent inter-personal and client liaison skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
