Acquisition of Cussons Technology’s Marine Hydrodynamics business

We have acquired the Marine Hydrodynamics division of Manchester-based Cussons Technology, after it was placed in to administration on 17 October 2019.

HR Wallingford delivers smart solutions wherever water interacts with people, infrastructure and the environment. Its specialist Equipment, Technology and Innovation (ET&I) group designs wavemakers and the associated technology needed to create, measure and analyse waves, forces and currents. Developed to meet the demands of scientists and engineers in their own research facilities, HR Wallingford’s wave generation systems are now used in more than one hundred coastal and marine research facilities worldwide.

Cussons’ Marine Hydrodynamics division (including Marine Educational) designs, manufactures and markets equipment used by the marine research sector to measure forces and moments on model vessels and marine structures to determine how they will perform at full scale. Its portfolio includes the prestigious Kempf and Remmers brand.

Combining Cussons’ expertise in force measurement with HR Wallingford’s expertise in wave generation and measurement brings a comprehensive range of instruments and technology together for the benefit of the coastal and marine research community.

Dr Bruce Tomlinson, HR Wallingford’s CEO, said: “Acquiring Cussons’ Marine Hydrodynamics division will allow us to add a range of complementary, high-quality products to our portfolio, and to expand the specialist solutions and services we can offer to coastal and marine research facilities worldwide. This acquisition will help us to enhance our global reputation in this sector.”

Dr Stephen Richardson, ET&I Manager at HR Wallingford, said: “We know that this has been an uncertain time for Cussons’ customers and partners. We want to reassure them that during this transition period we are here to deliver support and solutions.”
