Simon Tiedeman is Director of Equipment & Technology at HR Wallingford, overseeing the delivery of physical modelling equipment and specialist wave generation and absorption systems for laboratories worldwide.

Biography

Simon Tiedeman is Director of the Equipment and Technology division at HR Wallingford, where he oversees the delivery of physical modelling equipment across the organisation’s full product range. He leads a team of more than forty people and is responsible for the design, implementation and commissioning of wave generation and passive wave absorption systems used in hydraulic laboratories worldwide.

Simon joined HR Wallingford in 2007, following engineering and project management roles at Thames Water, Severn Trent Water and ESG Waterwise Technology. Over his career, he has managed and delivered major installations in Spain, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia, India and the UK, supporting the development and upgrading of physical modelling facilities internationally. He has also represented HR Wallingford at sector forums, including ICCE.

His expertise spans mechanical engineering, hydraulic modelling systems and the practical delivery of large‑scale laboratory infrastructure. He continues to advise clients on the design and commissioning of new research and testing facilities, contributing technical insight grounded in long‑standing operational experience.

Simon’s leadership focuses on technical quality, reliability and the sustained development of specialist engineering capability within the group. He holds a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Kingston University.
