Sustainability is at the core of how we work at HR Wallingford. We aim to operate responsibly, reduce our environmental impact and create positive outcomes for our people, partners and the communities we serve. Our approach brings together practical action, transparent reporting and long‑term ambition, ensuring that sustainability guides the choices we make and the value we deliver.

Through our company strategy, we are ensuring that our research, innovation and commercial activities support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and create long‑term environmental, economic and social value. Our sustainability policy sets out our commitment to promote and uphold sustainability in all we do. 

Sustainability isn’t a fixed destination – it’s an ongoing journey. Over the next three years, we will continue to build on the strong foundations we have set, with a focus on:

  • Continuing to reduce emissions and improve the accuracy of our reporting
  • Deepening our efforts in wellbeing, inclusion and leadership development
  • Driving innovation that supports both business growth and environmental stewardship
  • Delivering social value and supporting the communities we are part of

Sustainability reporting

In 2022, we launched an ambitious programme to embed sustainability across HR Wallingford. Since then, we’ve taken bold steps to make sustainability practical, purpose‑driven and measurable.

Decarbonisation

We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, and our ambition is to achieve net‑zero operations and a net‑zero Howbery Park by 2050.

UN Global Compact

Our commitment to the UN Global Compact holds us accountable for aligning our strategy and operations with universal principles of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Our annual Communication on Progress shows how we are putting its principles into action.
