Ofwat to support the new Rainwater Management Platform

We have been named as one of the winners of the fifth Water Breakthrough Challenge, the latest innovation competition in Ofwat’s £600 million Innovation Fund.

Run by Ofwat and Challenge Works and supported by Arup and Isle Utilities, the Water Breakthrough Challenge aims to encourage initiatives that help to tackle the biggest challenges facing the water sector, such as achieving net zero, protecting natural ecosystems and reducing leakage, as well as delivering value to society.

This funding will support a transformational update and digitalisation of the SuDS Manual as part of a new comprehensive Rainwater Management Platform. This is hugely exciting for the entire industry. The manual was last updated over 10 years ago and, since then, a wealth of new knowledge and understanding drawn from research, wide-scale implementation, and technological development has been generated.

The drivers for more sustainable and effective rainwater and surface water runoff management are becoming ever stronger, with climate change and housing development putting significant pressure on flooding, pollution, water resource availability, biodiversity and access to high value green space.  This funding will help ensure that best practice underpins delivery and that the benefits we can secure from our rainwater management solutions are maximised.

We are looking forward to collaborating with Wessex Water, CIRIA, Stantec and all of the wider project team to collaboratively create a cutting-edge Rainwater Management Platform that will disseminate the most up to date  guidance and design tools to the widest audience possible.
